Our Buttocks Are Different Essay Example for Free
Our Buttocks Are Different Essay I have chosen Arthur Rimbaudââ¬â¢s poem entitled ââ¬Å"Our Assholes Are Differentâ⬠. The poem was originally written in French and has been translated in many different versions. Interestingly, the poem is also known as ââ¬Å"Our Buttocks Are Not Theirsâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ and carries a significant reference to the poetââ¬â¢s personal life as he was an unabashed homosexual. The poem is also a reflection on Rimbaudââ¬â¢s tongue-in-cheek and witty sense of humor that is his unique trademark in all his writings. In this paper, I will discuss his usage of tone, imagery and symbolism. First I am going to analyze tone. The poem is spoken in a direct, straight-forward manner with feelings of animation, pleasure and amusement. The poet is clearly thrilled with the idea of peeping into otherââ¬â¢s private moment of relief but instead of looking at them with disgust, the view provides him with romantic, happy, idle thoughts that remind him of freedom. The act of relieving oneself is actually a form of release and that the pleasure is both mutual, for the reliever as well as the watcher, ââ¬Å"And in those happy floods that youth set free I watched the architecture of our crotchâ⬠. To the poet, seeing the buttocks is a way of appraising nature as it occurs upon him that not one buttock is similar to the other. It is interesting how he describes the buttock similar to our faces, with ââ¬Å"a dimple indentââ¬â¢ and characteristic from one another, ââ¬Å"Its forms to muscles, and a wickerwork/ Of hairs; for girls, the most enchanting lurk/ In a dark crack where tufted satin growsâ⬠. The smooth roundness and blushing cheeks of our buttocks reminds him of the ââ¬Å"painted cherub on a Baroque shrineâ⬠known for their adorable exposed buttocks that are as chubby as the cheeks on their innocent, angelic faces. The touch and appearance of its softness from afar excites the poet as it inspires him the meaning of liberation, ââ¬Å"If only we were naked now, and freeâ⬠. And at the end of the poem the poet even sounds aroused when he declares, ââ¬Ëto watch our protruding parts align;/ To whisper ââ¬â both of us in ecstasy! â⬠. Next I will analyze imagery. Rimbaud uses simple language to describe his emotions and responses to something we often keep private. As he begins with describing his habit of watching people urinating in private, he describes them as how he sees them with a touch of romanticism. The poet is descriptive in the physical attributes of the buttocks similar to if he were looking and describing a building, ââ¬Å"I watched the architecture of our crotch/ Quite firm, in many cases, it owes its form to muscles, and a wickerwork/Of hairsâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ . While others would feel embarrassed to look, let alone illustrate, the sight of anotherââ¬â¢s private parts, Rimbaud is unabashed, telling them as Godââ¬â¢s enchanting work of art as he sees them as ââ¬Ëtouching and wonderful innocenceâ⬠. It is interesting how Rimbaud uses a small reference for relief (urinating) and transforms them into a bigger and more profound imagery such as freedom of the soul. And as one openly exposes oneself with his buttock, we might as well go completely naked to experience the ultimate form of relief ââ¬â spiritual liberation. Next I will discuss symbolism. On the surface level, Rimbaudââ¬â¢s buttock is extremely physical: one sees another urinating and the buttock is exposed for all to see, perhaps unintentionally. However, on a closer inspection, the buttock signifies an opportunity to be free, not just for the observed but also the observer. From just the mere sight of a personââ¬â¢s buttock, the poet is saying we are hiding something so marvelous and beautiful to behold, thus, let alone an entire body that would be even more marvelous to be shared, ââ¬Å"Oh! If only we were naked now, and free/ To watch our protruding parts alignâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ . The buttock is an attribute we have behind us and that is constantly covered, like a best-kept secret. Yet it plays a crucial role for humans as it releases toxins from the body. And because it is always kept hidden, it becomes a wonder. And how we keep it ââ¬Å"quite firmâ⬠or ââ¬Å"a wickerwork of hairsâ⬠, is a reflection of who we are and our personality, much like a thumbprint. And thus, seeing glimpses of oneââ¬â¢s crack is much like having a preview into oneââ¬â¢s personality before you even get to know that person, and that creates another significant excitement for the poet. ââ¬Å"Our assholes are different from theirsâ⬠reverberate a connotation of distinction. It is as if the poet is saying, ââ¬Å"theirsâ⬠are different to mine. He describes the buttocks he sees and those of ââ¬Å"young menâ⬠depicting them as filled with youth and ââ¬Å"innocenceâ⬠. And if he could stand naked among them, his bottom would be ââ¬Å"whisperingâ⬠to theirs ââ¬â as if in humility ââ¬â the joys and pleasure to be firm, carefree and adolescent again. There are no worries and no hassles in life, just liberation. This poem has an odd topic for discussion, yet it makes a lot of sense about wanting, needing, and appreciating freedom. And what is unique about its symbolism, is that the poet uses a simple concept to teach us about freedom from the simple act of urinating and relieving oneself. The problems we bottle inside us are similar to the urine we accumulate throughout the day. And as we operate in a cycle from drinking to urinating, we need to do employ the same method in other aspects of our lives. Yet we do not. Imagine if we had the same discipline with our problems and our lifeââ¬â¢s choices. We have the ability to purge out unnecessary ââ¬Å"toxinsâ⬠in our body such as hate, anger, tension, stress, frustration and sadness on a daily basis, we would be leading healthy lives and cancer would not exist. Silly as it sounds, the poem about our buttocks is a good reminder of the little pleasures in life we often take for granted. And poems such as this are a reminder of why Rimbaud was hailed a brilliant poet. He succeeds in bringing to life imagery and symbolism that would otherwise make no sense to us.

Discussion Post Essay Example for Free
Discussion Post Essay New Format Requested this week While the format is to be changed thisweek, you are still required to make 3 postings; one original post and comment on two other students post. ORIGINAL POST REQUIREMENTS: You are to apply the major topics covered in the course (finance/accounting, economics, marketing) to your company and provide an analysts report. 1) (Apply Marketing techniques to:) create an interesting, unique or otherwise attractive catch line (humor works great for me! ) as your post title. Make a recommendation (can be here AND in your subject line) (some of you may not feel you have enough experience where your opinion (i. e. , recommendation) is worth something in this world. however note, you may have more experience NOW than some analysts at major investment banking houses! (scary I know! )) 3)(Use your corporate report to:) provide certain and specific quantitative analysis of your company. DONT repeat your entire report. but provide highlights.. as some examples: Net Income rose 20% from 2008-2011 to $1. 35 billion Expenses dropped.à by 15% Shareholder equity (highlights mean outlyers of data.. especially NEGATIVE information 4) (Use some economics learned. predict macro and micro futures).. describe what Macro world events have affected your company (global eco slow-down. price of oil) .. even micro events (consumption among consumers was down due to. )provide sensitivities for world events on your corporation and how it will affect that companys future activities. Provide predictions about future macro economic events and how your company will react going forward. The Network amp; Space Systems segment is engaged in the research, development, production and modification of products and services to assist its customers in transforming their operations through network integration, information, intelligence and surveillance systems, communication, architectures and space exploration. The Global Services amp; Support segment is engaged in the operations, maintenance, training, upgrades and logistics support functions for military platforms and operations. The Boeing Capital Corporation segment facilitates, arranges structures and provides selective financing solutions for its commercial airplanes customers. In the space and defense markets, it primarily arranges and structures financing solutions for its Boeing Defense, Space amp; Security government customers. Its portfolio consists of equipment under operating leases, finance leases, notes and other receivables, assets held for sale or re-lease and investments. The company was founded by William Edward Boeing in 1916 and is headquartered in Chicago, IL. http://www. marketwatch. com/investing/stock/ba/profile 2) The Boeing Company has a long history of providing complex systems and integrated assemblyââ¬â¢s to its customers. 3) The Boeing Company is headquartered in Chicago IL. In 1997 Boeing and McDonnell Douglas merged to form what is the Boeing Company of today. This was approximately 1 year after Boeing acquired Rockwell Corporations Space and Defense division. The company has over 249 subsidiaries. The largest competitor on the commercial side is Airbus a division of EDS and the largest competitor on the Defense, Space and Security side is Lockheed Martin with many other companies lining up for second place. In order for Boeing to maintain itââ¬â¢s market share the company has had to continually research and develop new products in both major business units. Notes for special considerationâ⬠1. Cash and cash equivalents increased from $5,359 billion to $10,049 billion from 2010 to 2011 2. Retained Earnings rose from $24,784 billion to $27,524 billion during the period of 2010 to 2011 3. Net Earnings rose from $1.3 billion in 2009 to $4. 02 billion in 2011 4) Boeing is a company that is always going to be challenged. The challengers for the Defense, Space and Security market typically have come from within the US but that is starting to change. EADS which is the largest defense business in Europe is continually trying to enter US ma rkets. Also Airbus which is a subsidiary of EADS is the most prominent competitor in the commercial segment but many countries such as Japan, China, Brazil and Canada are working very hard to position themselves as challengers to the commercial market. This will be a challenge for Boeing and Airbus for the next several decades. Commercial airline customers and airlines will continue to demand enhancements and improvements to the commercial airplanes and the service / cost associated with the. This will continue to drive performance by the manufacturers including Boeing which is the industry leader. The US government acquisition may decline depending on the outcome of the presidential and congressional elections. Boeing and itââ¬â¢s competitors in those markets will look toward no US markets to sell their products. Continued increase in energy and material cost will drive Boeings focus on keeping costs down. 5) Research and development are the single most important factor in keeping Boeing relevant for the future. Research and development expense amounted to $3. 9 billion, $4. 1 billion and $6.5 billion in 2011, 2010 and 2009, respectively. In 2009 this included $2. 7 billion alone for the new 787 commercial aircraft. Research and development costs also include bid and proposal efforts related to governme nt products and services, as well as costs incurred in excess of amounts estimated to be recoverable under cost sharing research and development agreements. Bid and proposal costs were $332 million, $355 million and $343 million in 2011, 2010 and 2009 respectively. Ramp;D within the Defense, Space and Security business unit is primarily focused on supporting customer requirements and providing new technologies to meet the needs of military, security and space agencies.

IQ Tests Are Not An Accurate Measure Psychology Essay
IQ Tests Are Not An Accurate Measure Psychology Essay IQ testing is very limited. They do not see how people view things. While someone may be bright personality, they may not be easy to decorate ADEPT sunset well. They can postulate ADEPT idea of space, but so vague they can not pass on dialogue more than a couple of seconds. Their brains can really incredible places equations and brilliant designs, but they tricked there, unable, which will be expressed in another and vice versa. An intriguing look at understanding the idea of multiple intelligences, Howard Gardner. He admits a lot of space Intellect, in which people tend to Excel in various ways. Some of the intelligence: melodic, linguistic, logical-mathematical, kinesthetic and spatial. You can see how the various disciplines will rely more on one than the other, which allows for each of them one by one, to find their power and as a consequence, the chase area. IQ test is often inaccurate. They do not check understanding. In addition, they do not count for abstract thinkers. I am very clever, but my IQ round 90 (below average). Some testing is designed to abstract thinkers (I) and the only one; I correspond to 125 (above average). In addition, they do not take into account such things as dyslexia. Einstein IQ was about 100 (he was dyslexic). Problems from the IQ test includes: 1. it is not clear that they actually test. 2. Coaches may increase the label by 10 points or more, so much SPAN, they check their familiarity with the types of queries asked. 3. In a study conducted in West Africa (Guinea-Bissau), about 25 years ago proposed a large-scale determinant of all or not, if the children went to school. Children who were not in school are puzzled by question-answer solemn and only to a reduction of points. 4. So-called query language is not related to the knowledge of foreign dialects found in the school. 5. Maturity (sometimes now referred to as emotional intelligence) is very significant, but it is not checked in the tests of IQ. For the demonstration, though brilliant, you can be on the numbers and physics, it can be restricted if you use Furious obtained easily. You need to get together with others, are attached to competently without aggression, which will be informative for those around you, and so on. Loss of the efforts that you do not welcome the origin; will not end the difficulties and not only with peers. Having said all that, IQ test may have limited value, but they are only sporadically, and is direct and should not be interpreted in isolation. Alternatively, one test subject, to face a psychologist, as a rule, more informative. 1. In most states, clinical psychologists and neuroscientists are allowed to perform psychological tests, for example, test IQ. Nevertheless, many specialists who conduct such tests do not collect additional data about the client, which is contrary to the use of test results of clients. To demonstrate, none of the testers are always asking me if I brought with mental illness have the representation of anxiety, depression and other mental illnesses, these components have a contradictory influence on the assessment of his IQ. 2. According to Parnes. W. ET. Al. (2010), these investigators concluded that mental illness, in detail, rather than weaken their IQ tags, at least from 3 to 7 points (p.556). To illustrate, those who have high ratings of anxiety rigidly at runtime to verify the IQ, because there is so much strength to do good to those inspections and limited most of the audits. 3. Another component is to assist that some clinical psychologists and neurologists are not aware of the influence of drugs (medical or psychiatric treatment) can reduce their reflectivity. Details, anti-anxiety antidepressants and antipsychotic may weaken one reservation in this well on these tests. To illustrate, if the matter had been granted in recent anti-anxiety medication, but he may give up his concerns, in addition, it can improve its response time, and in many confined to the south of the tests, thus, have a contradictory effect on the results of this question. LITERATURE It appears that intelligence tests are there places to give the proposal a person knowing or disability, if you will examine all aspects of the test results, if not, the results can be devastating, as one by one by one can be wrong all my life, because of the detail that the results are only a suggestion, as someone is on the set of requests and tests. Culture, community deprivation, education and informative background may have an impact on the results (Howe, 1997). Also on the day of the check so many components can affect the results of the example of our feelings, tension and illness (Heim, 1970). It occurs to me that smart checks cover only a few benefits of ownership entity, it does not cover the melodic skills, spatial awareness, both in terms of the main article, inter-and intra-personal understanding, the widespread sense, creativity, imagination, sensitivity, motivation and knowledge to acclimate to the position, and their natural environment, these functions will not be se en as part of the intelligence? From the various shapes which psychologists can not agree on my last demonstration of Vernon that the understanding that an understanding of test estimates and assumptions that IQ test results taken by George Stephenson will. Brings me to the decision that understanding can not be clearly characterized and without unquestionable distinction, we can not estimate ità ¢Ã ¢Ã¢â¬Å¡Ã ¬Ã ¢Ã¢â¬Å¾Ã ¢s indisputable. Although the WISC-IV has a very high reliability, to investigate if it is legitimate, that is, that it proposes measures. WISC-IV is a very verbal test and students, especially those that reduce the socio-economic status, can claim not to do such a real full understanding of the point system. This may be controversial; independently test IQ snapshot of students knowledge and should be used with other assessments, i.e. facts, meetings, assessment scales. Analysis James Flynn is not the man to quietly begin to retire. Emeritus Professor at the University of Otego in New Zealand, he still teaches and researches energetically 73. He says the investment and the collection of left-of-center party alliance. He has published in the foundation, which will be his own last sentence in the relative between the rush and IQ. In the summer after he learns the world is talking about What is the mind, edition was published in October in which he groups in its interpretation of the mystery of who bears his name: increased IQ of life in a generation. Your IQ is expected to be higher than that of your parents, and IQ, your children, is expected to be higher than you. Our advantage over our ancestors more consistently across all age groups from cradle to grave states Flynn. Nobody knows if the income will continue, but there is no doubt that they are overridden by 20 100 years and that their realities and dimensions were quite unexpected. He was horrified, so as not to offend. In July, when a reporter asked him about New Zealands Census numbers show that less educated women bring more small children, he said that the trend is to use a high down force of the earth by the average intelligence as the average height will decrease if the person was short and more children than young big. Flynn went on the assumption that if future technological improvements designed contraceptives can be put into the water, so that the antidote should be taken to develop a child, each offspring will be fond of children. Others learned described his concepts as absolutely disgusting. New Zealand Childrens Commissioner said he was in dangerous territory. And Flynn? He said that he was simply too Vintage to be concerned about offending anyone. What makes the concept of Flynn on understanding, haste and the government increasingly getting their liberalism? They have their genesis in his time at the University of Chicago, half of 100 years ago. In 1951, mature 17, he went to the Midwest from his village lived in Washington, DC, to study politics. Liberal concept was in the air. Nine years earlier, some scientists from the University helped to found the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE). Young smart, Flynn was awarded the BA after one year, and continued to do a masters degree and doctorate. In his first lessons of the work at the University of East Kentucky, he became head of a separate section of CORE and, as a result, has found their work untenable. He moved to the north, in Lake Forest, a liberal-arts school back in Chicago, Thus, in 1963, he moved to New Zealand, taking its interest in the liberal conception of him. And in 1980 he composed the publication of Race, IQ and Jensen, arguing that the reason IQs of black Americans behind whites was not genetic inferiority, as some understanding of the investigators covering Jensen. Was initiated gap, Flynn is considered among the huge differences between these two groups. Therefore, it can be closed. He believes, as between the two world wars, blacks were tapered gap with white to test the mental skills that the American infantry recruits were used for computer display. His opponents objected that such a check only listed school-taught information, and that the gap will remain constant at any purer test of cognitive abilities. To check them properly, Flynn needed to show that the Corps verify the validity of assessments of understanding, not just training. He began to wander about the leadership of the two most widely used IQ tests look how well they correlate with those used by infantry. Both Stanford-Bitnet and Wechsler tests were seen as a good grade in his native intelligence so if the identical person, usually do so as to test their IQ and infantry, it would strengthen his case that there were cognitive gains among Americans is very dark. Flynn found nothing applicable to his look, but it is something extra point, something very strange. IQ test revised from time to time to restore the outside of the date of request ( typewriters has given way to computer, yes, Ted phrases like delicious were dropped before the date of jargon as operational). In the matter of completeness group calculates average on both versions will be released in test manuals. And much, usually attractive, Assembly Tally up the Vintage tests. IQ calculation shows how to assess whether the nominee with a large standardization sample of individuals who have to check when it was first introduced. Breakthrough Flynn showed that individuals who were used to calibrate the previous audits were consistently easier to beat the testing agencies. Now, Flynn found him much bolder. And not only one deprived groups black Americans making cognitive gains, could mean the person can not be getting smarter? He looked at all the studies in which a lone Assembly was granted two checks, one calibrated to others. By 1984, he gathered the results from more than 7000 subjects, as well as about a dozen blends of tests. And they are sharp to a startling conclusion: White Americans have been gradually taking advantage of round three-tenths Issue IQ per year for nearly half a century. In 1984, he released a document saying so. This does not guarantee its critics. As far as they were concerned, all that has been verified that the IQ test was a lot more borrowing from the general improvement in education, and far from excellent collection of native speaker than previously thought. IQ counts tend to remain fairly steady the whole life of older individuals, as well as a study of twins who were separated at birth suggested that genetic inheritance had more influence than any environmental factor. The fact that Americans white Americans, no less can be reliably getting smarter, and surprisingly quickly, appeared unthinkable. Flynn looked at more remote locations. I received some notoriety because of my article 84, he explains. So I felt I could make up the infantry administration in each home, provided that the mental checks and verification offices throughout the world that I knew. Not all of them answered, but some of them. And this was the answer he received from the dreary November Saturday in 1984, with the PA Vroom, a Dutch psychologist Flynn assured that he was on certain things deeper meaning. It consisted of the audit is called Raven, managing up to 18-year-old Dutch conscripts from 1952 to 1982. This is one of the cleanest test innate intelligence. The problem is in the place of ordered structures in the form of assembly and loads them for it. There are no sentences, no school-taught skills and general knowledge. During those three decades, the average Tally rose 20 points. It was a huge benefit. Does that 18-year-old with a medium Tally in 1982 do better than all but a tenth of the male juvenile identical age who was tested three decades ago. Just as convincing a random experiment of the most recent meeting it was agreed with their own fathers, and children were matched 18 points higher. During the next year, Flynn received the facts and figures from other 13 countries, all of which are shown IQ gains. Today, no one question remains: IQ, increased throughout the 20 the century. Nearly 30 countries, some Evolved, some developing countries, noted the benefits. The whole world got smarter and faster. Conclusion In a small (very small) way. IQ tests mainly on data processing. Much faster, one does (effectiveness), and right: wrong ratio better than its Tally (completeness), the higher the score. However, some young children with high IQ do terrible in a normal school (for example, state public K-12). The reason for this is the most regular of boredom, as people tend not to pay to blunt the vigilance of topics / situations. With a high IQ, some topics may appear very simple to scientists, resulting in them, and push to spend unnecessary allowances to maintain mental effort on. Divergent questions, young children with low IQ, not necessarily D / F students. The cause of offspring with low IQ will do badly in school, usually because of unfavorable conditions in the understanding of the topic, and thus they may need added, personalized assistance from a teacher / educator. But, allegedly, a reduction in IQ does not mean the offspring will mean perform in school. I saw most regularly causes a red uction in IQ detection of disability (dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADD / ADHD, etc.) or the offspring can only approve tests (quite common in very minor children). Keep in mind that in this situation, the child in understanding not portrayed as poor. IQ tests only assess the PACE and understanding, which does not say how intelligent offspring. Conclusion: The IQ test is no experience to predict if the offspring will do well or do not attend school. Only time and know-how, I can say. Most people have very limited knowledge of the functional consequences of testing IQ. Many believe IQ tests only as an entertainment tool. However, statistical facts and figures reveal important connections between IQ test tags and many communities are important components, like scholastic presentation, opening the qualifications..

The Media :: essays research papers
The Media à à à à à The media has been causing problems and clashes in opinions probably ever since the television was invented. The media probably started out OK, but after a while, they started twisting opinions and stories, and taking sides. I think that the media is going to twist a story to make it more interesting once too many times, and someone is going to sue them badly for it. I would like to prove that the media sometimes messes up the truth. à à à à à The media sometimes finds a certain person and makes his/her story sound worse and sadder so that they can get sympathy for that person and then asks people to send money to help the person out. Not that that is a bad intention, but it is none of our business. I think that the media should just publish pictures, and then let you choose who you want to feed. à à à à à There is also the possibility that the only reason that big news companies just need filler for their network, so they go to another country to find some story on miserable people. If I was in some tribe in Africa or something I would not want anyone bothering me by putting a camera in my face. I would want the money to buy food, but if someone over in America just needed my story for filler, I wouldn't be too happy. à à à à à It should be the tribe's leader that should have to get the tribe out of trouble in any way that he could. It is not our business to send them our money to get food for the people that got themselves into trouble, but I think it makes people feel good to donate things to needy people. I just think that the media isn't telling people the whole story. Maybe the starving people spent all their money on drugs? I doubt that many people would send their hard earned cash if they knew that the person was just going to buy more drugs with it. à à à à à I think that the media has been messing up stories and opinions, but I'm sure that they did some good work also. It would be pretty hard to get

The Age of Enlightenment Essay -- Enlightenment 2014
Science vs the Enlightenment vs Politics This essay argues that the Enlightenment is the most important concept among the three given in the title. The Age of Enlightenment was a period in early modern history when western societies, led by its intellectuals, made a marked shift from religion based authority to one of scientific reason. Prior to this period, the Church and the State were intricately interlinked; and the Enlightenment sought to sever states and politics from religion through the application of rational analysis based on scientific observation and facts. This movement traces its origins to the seventeenth and eighteenth century Europe. Similar undercurrents of progressive thought were seen in the New World as well, most notably from such intellectuals such as Tom Paine and other proponents of American independence (Porter & Teich, 1981). The Enlightenment has had a profound impact on the cultural evolution of Western Europe in particular and the whole of the continent in general. A landmark piece of scholarship that turned the tables in favor of scientific reason...

Examining Historical Document of the Pinkerton National Detective Agenc
Butch Cassidy and his gang of outlaws have had a profound effect on America during the late 1800s. Because of this infamous ââ¬Å"Wild Bunch,â⬠the famous Pinkerton National Detective Agency produced many wanted ads for these criminals. One of these timeless works was made by the Pinkerton Agency and ended up in the hands of my college's library. This piece of historical literature dates back to about hundred years ago which has descriptions of each of Butch Cassidy and others who rode with him on his adventurous, risk taking journeys around the country. This antique piece of paper is very significant for itââ¬â¢s time period and is in still decent shape. Other than some tears around the corners, you can still read the entire page without a problem. This document has aged well, but still has changed its color to a brownish-beige. It also looks as if it was in either a book or a newspaper made to notify Americans of the crazed outlaws on the loose. A printing press was used to make this notification for the Pinkerton Agency, which was an astounding invention of its time to speed up the process of getting newspapers out to the public. To track down the famed ââ¬Å"Wild Bunch,â⬠the Pinkertons set this document with detailed descriptions of each outlaw with their picture and name underneath it. This particular antique was produced on Opera House Block in Denver Colorado. With the Pinkertonââ¬â¢s report, this helped catch some of the most vicious outlaws of their time. There were many men in the gang that terrorized the wes tern frontier, but the most notorious six were named and described on the document. George Parker, Harry Longbaugh, Camilla Hanks, Harvey Logan, Ben Page 2 Kilpatrick, and William Carver were all mentioned with their... ...y stole $97.00. Another important name mentioned was Ben Kilpatrick who was a native Texan, but eventually Page 5 left home and ventured into Wyoming and Utah. This is where he met Elzy Lay, who was a good friend of Butch Cassidy. Lastly, was William Carver who was also a native Texan who went by the name ââ¬Å"B.L.â⬠Carver. He began his life working on a ranch as a cowboy, but soon turned to the malicious ways of Butch Cassidy. He met Butch Cassidy while at a hideout called the Robbers Roost in Utah and rode with them until his death in 1901. In conclusion, this reckless group of men were constantly a focal point of their capture by the famous Pinkerton National Detective Agency during the late 18th century. With this piece of profound literature, we know a little more about our past and what it was like for these men during the time of the old wild west.

Sleep Deprivation and Teenagers
As a teenager and a first year post-secondary student, I can argue that as we get older, our amount of sleep gradually decreases. You have probably heard of the saying ââ¬Å"The More, The Merrier,â⬠and you might assume that according to this research paper, it means ââ¬Å"The More Sleep, The Better,â⬠but in reality and as a society, we believe that it means if you work more, do more, and do everything as fast as possible, you will achieve great success. The problem is that we have adapted to such a negative and wrong motto that it is affecting each and every single one of us teenagers. We need to be reminded of the consequences sleep deprivation has on important aspects of our lives, such as both mental and physical well-being, school, jobs, family, and relationships. Millions of students seek ways to keep themselves awake for a longer period of time and throughout the day. Popular culture has responded to our needs by creating material goods such as energy drinks, coffe e, electronics, and pills. It might keep individuals awake and might make them believe that they are full of energy, but at what point does the body and mind get the required nine hours of rest in order to function to its maximum capability?Students prioritize their lives but health seems to be one of the last on their mind. A recent survey by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine found that, ââ¬Å"only 15% of teenagers regularly get the nine hours of sleep they need each nightâ⬠(Foldvary-Schaefer, p. 9). This means Bhullar 2 that the other 85% are falling beneath the required amount. Lack of sleep can mean that the body is more vulnerable to diseases and virus attacks. At the same time it can interfere with memory, concentration, mood swings, mental abilities, and weight gain, just to name a few.Such things can lead to other problems like bulimia, loss of job, failure in school, and physical accidents. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there a re as many as 100,000 car crashes every year involving a drowsy driver. Over half of the crashes involved adolescence (Thorpy, p. 6). If you give attention to the transformation between early years of elementary school and later years in secondary school, youââ¬â¢ll notice the change in sleeping habit and workload. The younger you are, the earlier you fall asleep; the older you are, and the later you fall asleep. As our bodies hit puberty, it experiences a shift in circadian rhythm, the bodyââ¬â¢s 24-hour clock (Behrens, p. 469). This means that younger children tend to feel tired around eight or nine at night, where as teenagersââ¬â¢ circadian clocks shift to a later sleep time of ten or eleven at night. The need to feel more like adults, by having an active night life seems to only add to the late night sleep. And on the other hand, movies, television programs, internet surfing, facebook-ing, and texting are added to the normalized lifestyle. Our school systems also play a big part in loss of sleep. Secondary schools and Post-Secondary schools have a stronger workload than that of elementary schools. Although you might believe that the amount of homework that students are assigned is the main reason that older students are sleep deprived or buried in books, it is not. The second reason is the scheduling. Older teenagers are expected to attend school at an earlier time, and complete all course assigned homework. At the same time they are expected to study to achieve high grades Bhullar 3 in order to start a career, to work at a job in order to learn the responsibilities as young adults, to succeed at making their parents proud, and to have a good time in order to enjoy life. As generations are introduced to the world, our culture continues to be developed. Parents believe that adolescence have an easy stress-free life and should be capable of achieving success by spending the least amount of time to achieve it.When in reality, adolescence are living a l ife almost identical to those of adults, and if anything, adults have fewer stresses. It is most likely that every house hold has at least one family issue which causes stress upon the children. Grown-ups, or people in general who are involved in these issues, seem to be blind to the affect it has upon others within the family. These kinds of situations also have an impact on sleeping habits and teenagers. The environment that we are surrounded by day-to-day is what influences the way we think.Apart from the relationship between family members, adolescence in different communities are maturing a lot faster and creating bonds between themselves and a mate a lot earlier in their lives. What is lost in this process for young teenagers is the knowledge of the negative affects that these relationships that they create have on their lives. It creates more responsibilities, therefore more stress. In a first personââ¬â¢s point of view, when you are in a serious and deep relationship, it can control the way you feel and act.Teenagers tend to be more stubborn, which means that if there is an issue in the relationship, they are most likely going to withstand talking to each other which, in most cases, causes problems falling asleep. Responsibilities are one of the key elements to life, and with it you may get something in return. Money being one of the outcomes requires knowledge in how to earn it, save it, and spend it. As parents, it is an important facet to life that should be taught at an early age in order Bhullar 4 to master it when you are older.Because of this, more and more young teens are forced to get a job and pay for their wants and needs on their own. There are two main points to this idea. The first being that a job alone would cause a lot of stress on an individual and if there is an issue, whether it has to do with the job or something else, it would cause problems that may lead to a loss of employment. Teenagers already struggle with stress, and work ing harder to keep a job or having to live off of what you have saved up because you may have lost your job, would only add to it.If you pay attention to the thinking process that adolescence must go through almost every day, it can or may have already resulted in stress. As I have previously stated, stress results in sleep deprivation. ââ¬Å"We canââ¬â¢t learn to sleep less. While some people might adapt to sleep loss, and sleep necessity varies, sleep is biological function. There is no substitute for itâ⬠(Foldvary-Schaefer, p. 6). Although there are many consequences that are created by loss of sleep, there are ways that we are able to fix these problems. The main cure is simply sleep. But for those of us teenagers who have made it a habit to fall asleep late at night and wake up early in the morning, we are able to re-prioritize our lives. We are able to do things to release the stress that keeps us awake at night, and we are still able to enjoy life to its fullest. Wha t we need to do is sleep at least eight or nine hours of sleep a night, if we need to take a nap, take one no longer than twenty to thirty minutes long before three in the afternoon. Exercise or go for a run two to three hours before going to bed in order to release any worried thoughts or stress.Limit your caffeine intake and try to avoid smoking and drinking alcohol as much as possible. Donââ¬â¢t go to sleep hungry, nor go to sleep on a full stomach, and take a nice relaxing shower before getting ready for bed to calm your entire body (Foldvary-Schaefer, p. 195). Bhullar 5 Sleep may not seem as important as it is, but without sleep, we wouldnââ¬â¢t get anywhere in life. Teenagers need to be aware of the consequences it has on our physical and mental health, school, jobs, family, and relationships if we were to let our body suffer from loss of sleep. Our body and mind need the right amount of hours of rest in order for us to feel fresh and able to complete and deal with tasks that are given throughout the day. We should try and avoid as much stress as possible and make an effort to clear our minds before settling down at the end of the night. As of now, we should all adapt to a more positive motto: ââ¬Å"If you work more, do more, and do everything as fast as possible, you will achieve great success, as long as you let your body recover from a long hard dayââ¬â¢s work and give your mind a good nightââ¬â¢s rest. ââ¬
